Yesterday, I attended the National Stadium's closing ceremony. It was a last minute decision to take a look at the place before it's gone.
That place sure brings back memory of my secondary days, where I was at the stadium for all the non-athletic reasons, like SYF Flash card events (and I am not even one of the flashcard holders!), some interschool events that I had to attend as I had duties as a councillor, and subsequently, National Day parades. I still remembered that my mum grounded me after I attended a SYF event without her consent. Well, actually I asked her but she refused to let me attend. As I really could not see why she did not want me to attend (up till today, I still cannot see why), I just went ahead for the fun of it (hey, all my classmates were going!) and it was one of the best time of my school days!
Later on during my uni days, I went on a date with a guy I fancied to catch a soccer match at the Stadium. Well, the date turned out as boring as the match, and anyway I was never a soccer fan.
Here's the pics for a last glimpse of the place:
Entrance to the grandstand.
The last soccer match. It was a friendly match between Singapore and Australia. The score was Singapore 0, Australia 3
We were seated at the grandstand.
The last walk around the stadium by the 'Singapore Team', as part of the closing ceremony.
There were fireworks, but they lasted only 2 minutes. And honestly, the fireworks were quite lousy.
View from the field.
View at the field. My feet on the field for the last time......
My feet on the track for the last time too......
